RESEARCH OPPORTUNITY RE INTERNATIONAL AIDS PRESS COVERAGE, COURTESY OF THE U.N. DEPT OF PUBLIC INFORMATION (DPI) |
As part of the relationship between ICA and the UN DPI, the latter has made available clippings from the UN media blitz on AIDS, and would be most interested in any research that may be done using these clippings. They note that some research support (usually a couple thousand dollars max) is available through the communication grant program through the United Nations Foundation--see the ICA website for more information.
Given the small scale of this collection and funding, it might be an excellent opportunity for a master's thesis, first year project, etc., regarding how a similar AIDS story is covered from the perspective of other cultures, etc. If you or one of your students is interested in pursuing this research opportunity, please let me know at michael.slater@colostate.edu. To ensure that people are not doing overlapping research, please request the subset of clippings that you would like to use with a brief note outlining the planned focus of the study. If anyone else wants to use that set, I'll have them check with the first recipient for clearance, that the effort is non-overlapping. I would ask that you provide me with confirmation that you will pursue research with the clippings or return them within 3 weeks of receipt, so that if you can't use them others can. Their description of what they have available follows: We have collected diverse paper clippings from the UN Information Centres around the world. We would also provide the set of media blitz objectives and messages to be emphasized during the campaign. The following is the breakdown of a total of 216 articles (as opposed to summaries and reports) in English (unless otherwise indicated): Vienna: 59 (19 German; 16 Hungarian; 9 Slovak; 9 Slovene) Tripoli: 7 Yangon: 1 Lagos: 31 Alger: 35 (French) Islamabad: 46 Dhaka: 37 (9 Bangla) Michael D.
